Structure
The band offers free tuition to anyone wanting to learn to play either the bagpipes or a drum. The ability to read music prior to joining the band is not necessary at all. We teach across all levels, from complete beginner to a competent competition level of piping or drumming.For this reason, there are a variety of abilities within the band and so tuition is carefully tailored to suit the individual.
We have three levels within the band, with accompanying tutor books (specifically designed by P/M John Chandler) enabling the individual to work at his / her own pace under the watchful eye of the Pipe Major.
At the end of each module, the piper / drummer is assessed and if successful, moves on to the next level. This not only acts as motivation for all in the band but also provides experience for playing in competition, under pressure and solo!
